Bangladesh Celebrate Historic ODI Series Win Over Australia Despite Final-Match Defeat

Bangladesh captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz has hailed his team’s historic ODI series win against Australia as one of the greatest milestones in Bangladeshi cricket. Although Bangladesh went on to lose the last ODI by just one wicket, they had already won the three-match series 2-1 – their first ever ODI series win over Australia.

Considering Bangladesh has fought as an underdog against them in cricket for so long, it is especially commendable. Bangladesh had won only three of 25 ODIs against Australia before this series. The success of winning the first two matches guaranteed a historic breakthrough, overcoming years of disappointment and demonstrating how far the team has developed since its international debut.

Miraz said after the series that he was proud not just of the result, but of how much respect Bangladesh had earned from their opponents. The most gratifying aspect of the series, according to the captain, was hearing how Australia’s players spoke about Bangladesh’s cricket.

He said that a team of Australia’s stature acknowledging Bangladesh was indicative of how far the country had come in recent years. If they keep improving as quickly as Miraz thinks, then these players can also intend on becoming a harder team to compete against at the top level.

The captain also described as pleasing the way fast bowler Shoriful Islam responded to being included in the side. Shoriful, who was handed his maiden ODI call up when left arm fast bowler Nahid Rana was rested, responded to the selectors faith with two timely blows. Miraz hailed the competitive spirit within the squad, which has brought several players on a higher level of performance.

Miraz himself missed the final ODI after getting hit on the head in the second match. He stated that medical personnel told him to get off the field after being hit but he opted to continue batting because Bangladesh was so close to winning. Miraz took 7 for 115 in the second innings and potential match-winning spells of 3 for 25 and was advised by doctors later that carrying on posed a danger, but his only priority at the time, he said, after “definitely” completing five days of exertion for his team was to contribute to a historic win.

The series victory, though marred by the loss in the final, stands as a landmark and bold assertion of their capability to face other top teams.
