India A Recover Brilliantly to Post Competitive Total Against Sri Lanka A

India A staged a terrific comeback after being reduced to 36 for 6 against Sri Lanka A in the fourth match of the Tri-Nation A Series 2026 at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium here on Monday, reaching a competitive total of 265 runs. Sri Lanka A had won the toss and chosen to bowl first a move that made immediate sense as Sri Lanka’s openers got through the initial overs unscathed.

A top order that was unable to stitch partnerships together with losses followed frequently for India A. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, the young opener, again failed to capitalise on a good start and attract attention. The Sri Lankan bowlers kept the pressure on during the middle overs and had left the visitors in a fix, wondering if they could post a total that would be competitive.

But, a brilliant partnership between Suryansh Shedge and Vipraj Nigam turned the match on its head. The pair stabilised the innings before launching a controlled counter attack towards the Sri Lankan bowlers. The stand was also significant in saving India A from a precarious position and swinging the momentum back towards the visitors.

Steering Shedge from the front, who scored a sensible 72 off 66 balls with required positive strokes, but ticked over where needed. Others got starts, but Nigam was equally effective at the other end with a vital fifty (51) which included a few important boundaries. They put on over a hundred for the eighth wicket to turn what appeared to be a below-par score into one that was practically unachievable.

Mohamed Shiraz was the highest wicket-taker for Sri Lanka A bagging 3 wickets and also keeping a check on the scoring rate during crucial stages of their inning. Spinner Viyaskanth also played a pivotal role in holding back the run flow through the middle phases while building pressure on Indian batters.

In the end, India A was bowled out for 265 in 49.2 overs but given their position early on, it was a creditable effort. The visitors will now depend on their bowlers to defend and keep the pressure up in the tri-series.
